FAFSA Deadline Dates  You can still file if you've missed the deadline.  Read below.

March 15, 2010 for Fall 2010 Admits

If you plan on coming to Eastern in Spring 2010, the FAFSA deadline is November 15, 2009.

Failure to file the FAFSA by Eastern's deadline date could result in reduced financial aid. It is important to understand that financial aid is not an unlimited resource. There is a limited amount of monies to go around, and schools must establish criteria by which the funds are distributed. The most common criteria are "deadline dates". Simply put, the funds will go to the students who do what they need to do-when they need to do it.

There is no filing fee attached to the FAFSA. The sooner you file the sooner you are likely to hear from us regarding eligibility. We recommend that you file the FAFSA on the web by going HERE or you can file via "hard copy" obtained from the financial aid office.

One of the most common reasons we receive from families as to why they were late is that they were waiting to file their federal tax return and use actual figures. DO NOT hold up the filling of the FAFSA for any reason. You are given the option to "estimate" your figures, and update at a later date. Remember to list Eastern Connecticut State University as a recipient school to receive your information. Our school code to put on the FAFSA is 001425.

Once you have filed your FAFSA, you will receive notification from the processor and our office will also receive your information. We will follow up the requests for additional paperwork from you. Please comply with all requests in a timely fashion. Remember-the sooner you supply the information, the sooner you will receive financial aid notification.

The financial aid office is happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the financial aid process. Please contact them with the information provided below with any questions or concerns you may have and they will promptly reply to you.

TuitionPay

Eastern Connecticut State University has teamed with TuitionPay to offer you the TuitionPay Monthly Payment Plan. The plan is interest-free and allows you to spread your tuition and fees over a number of months.

You can enroll in the plan by term or for the year. If you enroll in the payment plan for one term, the enrollment fee is $35 and you will make three payments. If you will be attending Eastern for the Fall and Spring terms, you can enroll in the annual plan. The enrollment fee for the annual plan is $55 and your annual tuition and fees are spread over 10 payments. You are not allowed to spread your tuition and fees for one term over 10 months.

The plan does not cover Summer or Intersession terms. Your TuitionPay Monthly Plan should be established as early as possible for smaller, more manageable monthly payments. If you enroll in the plan after it has started, you must make up the necessary back payments.

For additional information or to enroll in the payment plan, you can contact TuitionPay by calling (800) 635-0120, by email, info@tutitonpay.com or by visiting their www.tuitionpay.com.

All workshops are facilitated by Tutoring Center Learning Specialists assisted by Academic Coaches for Excellence (ACES)

ALL STUDENTS ARE WELCOME!

REFRESHMENTS WILL BE SERVED!

Choice Theory

Are the ways you behave in line with the goals you have?  Are you consciously choosing behaviors that will help you achieve your goals?  Do you realize you have choices?  In this workshop, students will be encouraged to examine their behavior, see the connection between behavior and results, and learn to consciously choose behaviors that keep them on track to their goals.

Reading College Textbooks

Even if you are an avid reader, college textbooks can pose a host of reading challenges.  At the same time, college textbooks are also a great resource.  In this workshop, students will learn how to “preread” their textbooks, identify and understand the parts of a college textbook, and see how chapters are organized.  Students will also be offered some effective reading strategies.  Students attending this workshop should bring a textbook from a course they are currently enrolled in.

Mind Mapping

Active learning strategies can help students understand, organize, and master course material.  Mind mapping is powerful active learning strategies that can help students manage material in many classes. Students attending this workshop should bring a textbook from a course they are currently enrolled in as well as lecture notes for that class.

The Cornell Method of Note Taking

This workshop will introduce students to a specific format that will assist them in creating more effective class and text notes.  By employing the Cornell Method of Note Taking, students can turn notes into self-tests and identify the important points in their notes.  Students attending this workshop should bring lecture notes from a class they are currently enrolled in.

Preparing for Finals

Successful preparation for final exams involves time management skills.  Equally important is knowing the dos and don’ts of studying for finals in different disciplines.  And preparation also often involves memorization.  This workshop will help students prepare to prepare! Students should bring their notes, study guides, previous tests and quizzes, and textbooks.

ECSU-AAUP Scholarship

What is it?

The ECSU Chapter of the AAUP announces a scholarship program for ECSU undergraduate students who are registered for independent projects in the 2009-2010 academic year. The Jean H. Thoresen ECSU-AAUP Scholarship will be awarded to assist with the costs involved in completing one or more research or creative projects and/or presenting research at an academic conference.  The ECSU-AAUP has allocated up to $500 per student for distribution in support of this program.

How do I apply?

Applicants must write their own proposal, even if it is a collaborative project.  The application must include:

1.       Project proposal narrative:

  •  4 double-spaced typed pages maximum.
  •  Evidence of a well-focused and worthy purpose, presented in relationship to the applicant’s field of study.
  •  A clear set of goals/objectives for the project.
  • An appropriate and feasible methodology or plan for conducting the project.
  •  Likelihood of significant outcome, such as publication, presentation at a conference, performance, or exhibition

2.       Proposed budget with documentation/justification.

3.       Curriculum vitae (Resume)

4.       Letter of recommendation from the supervising faculty member evaluating the feasibility of the project as proposed by the student.

5.      Eight copies of the complete proposal should be sent to:

AAUP Executive Board

ECSU-AAUP Office

Beckert Hall

The deadline for receipt of the proposal is Monday, November 23, 2009 at Noon (12 p.m.).  It is the student’s responsibility to provide all requested information.  Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

How will my proposal be judged?

Complete proposals will be evaluated by the ECSU-AAUP Executive Board. The proposal(s) deemed most-competitive by the Executive Board will be selected for funding.

What strings are attached?

Upon completion of a funded project, a brief project report should be filed with the ECSU-AAUP office. This report will include documentation of how the scholarship funds were spent.

I have some other questions, who should I contact?

Please contact Dr. Nicole Krassas, Political Science, 327 Webb Hall, (860) 465-5034, krassasn@easternct.edu.

This program was established on 4/28/99 by unanimous vote at the ECSU-AAUP annual meeting.  It was renamed The Jean Thoresen ECSU-AAUP scholarship after Jean, a professor of Sociology, passed away in November 2000.  Jean was a devoted member of the AAUP, a tireless worker for AAUP ideals and a past chapter president.
